More, Giuseppi Logan's second album, has two tracks from the same legendary May 1st, 1965 Town Hall concert, produced by ESP-Disk' owner Bernard Stollman, that gave us Albert Ayler's Bells. This ESP-Disk' 50th Anniversary Renaster edition of More includes previously unissued music from Logan's set that reissue producer Michael D. Anderson discovered at the end of the Albert Ayler Bells master tape. The astonishing thing about this 10-minute segment of audio tape is that it is the continuation of the second track, “Shebar,” extending its length to 19 minutes. On the original album, there is a fade, but with the inclusion of this newly discovered segment, the performance continues to the end of the song and of the group's performance. Note: The slight distortion here exists on the original master tape and could not be corrected, but the historical value in hearing the entire performance certainly justifies its inclusion.
Press Quotes:
“In the mid-1960s, newly arrived in New York from the New England Conservatory in Boston, he made a pair of important free-jazz records for the pioneering ESP-Disk label.” – John Leland, The New York Times
“He recorded two compelling sets as a leader for ESP” – Thom Jurek
“…energetic and colorful solos…” – Scott Yanow
“His leader sessions displayed a penchant for puckered, non-Western tonalities and full-bore group improvisation that nevertheless held within it as much jolly lightness as it did the psychedelic viciousness of the times. … Logan's group clashed in Afro-Cuban rhythms, gospel chords, blustery free jazz and unhinged, sparse collectivity.” – Clifford Allen
"vitally important saxophonist…transcendent" – Doug Schulkind, WFMU

I have one of the TPings of this genius's work and ît feels like a great honor. I think of Grimes as being more famous with musicians than the general public because of his taste in music. But he is brilliant and worth familiarizing yourself with. Great album start to finish. John Seltenreich
Simply amazing to hear a new album with Wadada and Ewart!! ...And Reed rounds out this trio beautifully.
